Floristry Class in Saigon for Foreigners: What to Expect

By the Cáo Experiences team · 2026-11-01

We run flower arranging workshops in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City) in English, starting with zero-florist expectations. Each session lasts about 2 to 3 hours in a relaxed, familiar space in the city—never a formal academy. You'll work with seasonal, fresh stems (roses, chrysanthemums, local greenery) to build one or two arrangements you take home. We welcome solo travelers, couples, families, and small groups. Your arrangement stays yours; no special tools or prior taste level required. Beginners worry most about making it "wrong"—we adapt each design to what feels natural to you. Rain doesn't affect us indoors. Ask us for dates and a quote on WhatsApp; cost varies by group size and whether you choose semi-private or full-group. Cáo Experiences coordinates all details in advance, including any allergies or mobility needs. Ask about dates on WhatsApp

What exactly happens in a session?

We start by gathering the stems—you'll see what's in season and available that week. No two classes use identical flowers; we work with what's fresh. We show you basic cuts, how to strip leaves below the waterline, and angles that let stems sit at depth. Then you begin: some people compose loose, garden-style; others prefer tight, formal shapes. There's no "correct" look. We circulate, suggest height or color balance if you ask, but never override your instinct. By hour two, you're arranging quietly with water and greenery around you. The final 20 minutes, you add finishing touches, take photos, and wrap your work to carry home or leave at your hotel.

Should I book private or semi-private?

SetupGroup sizeBest forWhat changesLearning feel
Semi-private4–8 peopleSolo travelers, couples, small friend groupsShared stems, one demo, peer energySocial, relaxed pace
Private (full group)2–12 people your partyTeams, families, close friends, anniversariesTailored timing, custom stems on request, no strangersIntimate, bespoke

Both options cost differently based on group size. Semi-private sessions fill gradually; you'll be grouped with other international guests, all learning together. Private sessions lock in a specific date and let you coordinate timing and plant preferences (e.g., "my partner loves peonies," or "nothing red"). Ask us for dates and a quote on WhatsApp to compare what fits your schedule and budget.

How is this different from flower classes elsewhere?

Most formal floristry courses teach you industry standards—wedding-bouquet mechanics, color theory, professional tools. We don't. We focus on the experience and what you take home, not certification. You're arranging flowers in a working space where we actually live and teach, not a studio rented by the hour. We pause for tea or coffee, chat about where the blooms came from, answer questions about Vietnam's flower markets without scripting answers. If you're on a solo trip and want to slow down for a morning, you'll feel that in the room. If you're celebrating something—an anniversary, a departure—we notice and shape the session around that mood. We also adapt on the fly: if someone has arthritis, we skip small-stemmed work and focus on larger blooms. If it's someone's first time touching plants in years, we start simpler. That flexibility isn't in a branded course.

What should I bring and wear?

Wear clothes you don't mind getting wet—water splashes, leaves stain green. Closed shoes help if you drop a stem. Bring nothing; we supply scissors, floral foam or vessels, and all materials. If you have severe flower or plant allergies (rare, but real), tell us on WhatsApp before booking so we can discuss whether the session is safe for you. If you're sensitive to certain scents (gardenias, chrysanthemums can be strong), mention it and we'll swap in different stems. Nobody has ever been turned away for allergy reasons, but honesty upfront saves disappointment.

What if it rains or I have mobility limits?

Rain doesn't affect us; we work indoors in a covered space with good light. If you use a wheelchair or have difficulty standing for two hours, we'll modify the setup: you can arrange seated, we can bring stems to table height, we can shorten to 90 minutes instead. Bring any aid (cane, cushion) you need. Tell us in advance so we're ready. We've hosted guests in their 70s and 80s; the pace is entirely yours.

How do I choose between this and other Saigon experiences?

If you're spending a few days in Saigon, think about what resets you. A Vietnamese cooking class teaches you to make a meal; a coffee workshop explores one beverage deeply. Flower arranging sits between meditation and making: you're creating something beautiful with your hands, but you're not learning a survival skill or tasting something. It's pure slowness. If you're in a group and want variety, consider pairing a flower class with a street food and market tour on another day—morning market walk, afternoon flowers. If you're longer in Saigon and love hands-on learning, craft workshops offer similar pacing (pottery, silk painting, weaving). Most guests pick one main class per trip; flowers works especially well for couples, solo travelers seeking calm, and small friend groups.

What to check before you book

  • Date flexibility: Semi-private classes fill weeks ahead; private groups need 5–7 days' notice.
  • Stem allergies or sensitivities: Tell us if certain flowers or plants trigger reactions.
  • Language: All sessions run in English; we speak slowly and repeat.
  • Mobility or sitting time: Confirm you're comfortable standing (or we'll adapt).
  • What you take home: Your finished arrangement travels well in a bag for a few hours. If you're staying several days, you can leave it at your hotel's front desk in water.
  • Camera/photos: Bring a phone to photograph your work; we don't video or share images without asking.

Getting started

The first step is to ask us about dates and a quote on WhatsApp. Describe your group (how many, any solo or mixed ages) and roughly when you'd like to visit Saigon. We'll confirm availability, explain what's in season that week, and help you decide private or semi-private. Payment comes after you confirm, and we send a WhatsApp checklist (what to wear, where to go, what time) a few days before.
