Flower Arranging Class in Hanoi: How to Book with Cáo

By the Cáo Experiences team · 2026-11-06

Flower arranging classes in Hanoi are offered by Cáo Experiences as half-day or full sessions in a family kitchen space in the old quarter. You'll learn to build Vietnamese-style and modern arrangements using seasonal blooms sourced fresh that morning—no experience needed. Sessions run small groups (4–8 people) or private for couples and families; we coordinate dates and times over WhatsApp after you contact us. Classes include all flowers, containers, tools, instruction in English, and time to create two or three finished pieces you take home. The session runs about 3–4 hours with a tea break. We adapt for left-handers, kids (age 10+), seniors, and any mobility needs; rain means we move indoors but the flowers stay fresh. Ask about dates on WhatsApp

What exactly happens during a flower arranging session?

We meet in the morning or afternoon and start with tea while our host talks through the flowers we've sourced that day—what's in season, how florists here choose stems for balance and depth. Then you move to your own workspace (a long table, stools, good light) and we demonstrate the first arrangement: a hand-tied bouquet. You copy the technique—how to strip leaves, angle each stem, grip the bundle, turn it so the spiral builds naturally. Most guests finish their first piece in 45 minutes. We break for tea and snacks. The second arrangement is usually a vase design—taller, with mechanics (how to use floral foam, anchor stems, build height). The final piece is free-form: you pick flowers and a vessel, and we guide without directing. By the end, you leave with three arrangements wrapped carefully to travel home.

Do I need any experience to join?

No. Every person in our classes is a beginner—we've hosted teenagers, couples on holiday, retirees, office groups on team days, and single travelers. Hands-on means you hold the flowers from the start; we show the grip, the angle, the spiral, but your hands do the work. The first 20 minutes feel clumsy (stems slip, you're unsure of the height). By the second piece, your brain catches the rhythm. By the third, you're experimenting. Confidence, not skill, is what matters. If you're left-handed, tell us before the session: we'll set your station on the left, demo on both sides, and stand where you can mirror us. Kids aged 10+ join parent-led sessions; we skip the foam mechanics and focus on hand-tied bouquets, which are simpler and forgiving.

Which season has the best flowers?

Spring (February–April) brings soft pinks, whites, and lime greens—dahlias, roses, stock, and local blooms that smell strong. Summer (May–July) is humid but the variety peaks: chrysanthemums, sunflowers, lisianthus, and wildflowers in jewel tones. Autumn (August–October) cools down and the palette shifts to burnt orange, deep red, and bronze. Winter (November–January) is actually our sweet spot: flowers last longer in cool air, and imports from the highlands give us roses and carnations in ice-cream colors. No season is "wrong"—the morning's flowers decide the lesson. If you're allergic to pollen or sensitive to strong scents, mention it when you book; we can source low-pollen varieties (spray roses, certain chrysanthemums) or open windows wide.

How do I book and what happens next?

Message us on WhatsApp with your preferred dates, number of people, and any dietary needs or access requirements. We'll reply within a day with available slots and ask you to confirm. You'll get a location pin and WhatsApp instructions the morning of the class. Wear clothes you don't mind getting wet—flower stems drip, and leaves stain if you brush your shirt. Bring a phone to photograph your finished work. We provide aprons but they're optional. On rainy days, the session moves to a covered indoor workspace (same flowers, same teaching); we've adapted this dozens of times and the experience doesn't change. If a guest cancels less than 48 hours before, a rescheduling fee applies—ask us for exact terms when you book.

How do flower arranging classes fit with other Hanoi experiences?

Many guests combine a morning flower arranging workshop with an afternoon Vietnamese cooking class or street food market tour—all in the old quarter, walkable, and hosted in English. Some book coffee workshops on separate days or tea experiences to learn how flowers and drinks pair in Vietnamese culture. Teams on group and corporate experiences often add arranging as a creative break during a longer Hanoi itinerary. Families sometimes book family-friendly experiences that blend arranging with a farm visit or craft workshops. Check our full Hanoi experiences page to see what else fits your time here. The advantage: you're in one neighborhood, same host or connected team, and you get to know the old quarter deeply.

What should I check before booking a flower arranging class?

Before you confirm:

  • Note the dates and times we suggest, and pick the slot that works for your flight/visa timeline.
  • Tell us if you're pregnant, have back or neck pain, or need a chair instead of a stool (we have both).
  • Mention any flower allergies or scent sensitivities.
  • Ask if kids or seniors in your group need extra support (we adjust height, pace, and demo style).
  • Confirm pickup is not included; you come to us, or we can suggest the nearest moto-taxi point.
  • Check the weather forecast; rain doesn't cancel, but typhoons do—ask about our reschedule policy.
  • Bring cash or ask about payment methods when you confirm.

On the day:

  • Arrive 5 minutes early so we can show you the flowers before we start.
  • Wear closed shoes (water and stems on the floor).
  • Take photos of each piece before wrapping; they'll wilt in a few days, and photos last.
  • Ask our host questions—why this leaf? What's this flower's name? We love that.

FAQ

Can I bring my partner and make it a private class?

Yes. Private sessions for two or more are our most popular option. Same 3–4 hours, same flowers, but the pacing and focus are just for you. Message us to ask about dates and a quote.

What if I have severe pollen allergies?

Tell us when you book. We'll source low-pollen varieties (roses, carnations, spray chrysanthemums, greenery) and open windows wide. Some guests wear a light mask during setup; we're relaxed about that.

Do I need to bring scissors or any tools?

No. We provide sharp florist scissors, knives, tape, floral foam, vases, and all mechanics. You just bring your hands and ideas.

What happens to my arrangements after the class?

You wrap them and take them with you. With fresh water daily, most pieces last 5–7 days at room temperature. Keep them out of direct sun and away from fruit.

Can kids younger than 10 join?

Children under 10 can attend a private family session if a parent leads. Hand-tied bouquets work best for young hands; we skip foam mechanics. Ages 10+ join group or private classes normally.

If I have dietary needs, can you provide snacks?

We offer tea and light snacks during the break. Tell us about allergies or preferences (vegetarian, gluten-free, etc.) when you book, and we'll adjust.

Can I book a class for a group or team event?

Yes. Group and corporate experiences can be arranged. Larger groups may split into two sessions or book back-to-back slots. Message us with your group size and dates. Ask about dates on WhatsApp
