Flower Arranging Workshop in Hanoi in English

By the Cáo Experiences team · 2026-11-01

A flower arranging workshop with us in Hanoi is a hands-on 2-to-3-hour session where you learn to build a hand-tied bouquet and a vase arrangement using fresh seasonal blooms. We host small groups (4–6 people) or private pairs and families in a studio space in the old quarter, with all instruction in English. You arrive, we introduce the mechanics of stem length, color balance, and spiral binding, then you work at your own pace while we move between stations offering tips. Every guest takes home both pieces they've made. We source flowers fresh that morning and provide all tools. Beginners often worry about making it "look right"—we show you it's about proportion and confidence, not perfection. Cáo Experiences adapts the session for kids (ages 8+), seniors, and groups with mixed skills. Rain doesn't affect us indoors. Ask us for dates and a quote on WhatsApp. Ask about dates on WhatsApp

What exactly do you learn in three hours?

We start with a 20-minute walk-through: how florists think about height, width, and the "mechanics" that hold stems in place (foam, spiraling, water absorption). Then you pick your own flowers from the selection we've sourced—dahlias, roses, chrysanthemums, foliage—and begin building. First project is a hand-tied bouquet: you hold stems at an angle, rotate as you add, and create a natural dome shape that stands without a vase. Second is a vase design using the same principles but with a container and foam base. By hour two, muscle memory kicks in and people stop asking "is this right?" By hour three, you're refining balance and experimenting with color combos. You leave with two finished pieces, a feel for which flowers hold water longest, and confidence to arrange a grocery-store bunch at home.

Who is this workshop actually for?

Couples on a creative date: you work side by side, take home matching pieces, and have something to remember the morning by. Groups of friends: ages 8 to 75 can join the same session; we adjust the height of worktables and the stem count per person. Solo travelers: you'll work next to others but at your own pace. Expats in Hanoi: it's a low-pressure way to spend a morning and meet people who live here. Families with kids aged 8+: children handle stems carefully, focus for the full session, and often create more inventive colour combinations than adults. People with no art background: you don't need a steady hand or prior knowledge; the structure (height, width, depth) is the guide, not freehand drawing.

People who might not enjoy it: those who prefer instruction-heavy classes (we demonstrate but let you lead), or anyone allergic to pollen (rare, but we can note it when you book).

How does the small-group format actually work?

We cap groups at 6 people so every guest gets hands-on feedback. You arrive at a studio in a quiet lane off the old quarter; there's a long work table, good light, and buckets of water at each station. One of us demos the first technique while you watch, then everyone tries it at the same time. As you work, we circulate—checking stem angles, suggesting a different leaf for balance, handing you a taller bloom if you need height. If someone is struggling with the spiral grip, we slow down and walk them through it again. If a guest finishes early, we suggest adding finer texture or trying an asymmetrical shape. There's no right moment to stop; you finish when you feel your arrangement is complete. Private sessions (pairs or families) follow the same rhythm but with 1-on-1 attention throughout; kids often ask more questions, and we adjust teaching pace on the spot.

Why book with us instead of a standard florist class?

We design the session around you, not a script. A standard floristry course teaches you to replicate a photo or a preset style. We teach you to see what makes an arrangement feel balanced, so you can adapt it to any flowers you find later. Our hosts work with flowers every week; we know which blooms wilt fast, which stems are easier for beginners to grip, and which color pairs hit hardest. We also keep groups tiny (4–6, not 15–20) so you're not waiting for a demo to end or competing for table space. And we're in Hanoi—if you're visiting or living here, we coordinate timing that fits your schedule, answer questions by WhatsApp the day before, and offer to host you at a time that suits the season (spring flowers are different from summer).

Competitors often run longer, more expensive courses, or they assume you want to learn floristry as a trade skill. We assume you want to spend a morning making something beautiful, learning the logic behind it, and leaving with two pieces you made with your hands.

What do you actually need to bring and wear?

Wear clothes you don't mind getting a little wet—flower stems release water, and you'll be reaching into buckets. An apron is helpful but not essential; we have a few on hand. Bring nothing else; we provide all tools (scissors, wire, floral foam), all flowers, and water. Wear comfortable shoes you can stand in for three hours. If you have a severe pollen allergy, tell us when you book so we can select low-pollen varieties or discuss whether the session suits you. Jewellery on wrists and hands is fine but can catch on thorns; a few guests push bracelets up or leave rings off. Sunglasses help if the studio light bothers you. We don't ask you to bring vases—your finished pieces are wrapped to travel safely on a bus or taxi, and you can arrange them at your accommodation that evening or the next morning.

What if it's raining or very hot?

Rain has no effect on us; the session runs indoors in a sheltered studio. Heat is fine too—our space has fans and shade. The only weather issue is if it's so hot that flowers wilt faster than usual; on those days, we keep buckets topped up and suggest you get your pieces into water quickly after you leave. If you're visiting Hanoi in summer and worried about blooms lasting, tell us and we'll focus on hardier flowers (roses, solidago) over delicate ones.

How do we adapt for kids, seniors, and dietary needs?

Kids (8–12): we lower one worktable, provide shorter-handled scissors, and give them a smaller stem count so they feel proud of a complete piece. We let them pick bold color combos (lime and purple, orange and red) that might surprise an adult—and often look great. They focus better if we check in every 10 minutes. Teens and families: same session as adults, no adaptation needed. Seniors: we raise the worktable height, offer a stool, and encourage them to sit while working if that's more comfortable. We go slower with fine-motor steps. Many seniors are the most thoughtful arrangers because they take time to study balance. Allergies: pollen allergies can be managed by selecting specific flowers and offering you a mask. Food allergies don't apply (no food service), but if you're joining a private session and want to do tea experiences or craft workshops alongside, tell us your needs.

What to check before you book

  1. English ability: all instruction is in English. If you're a non-native speaker, that's fine—we use simple language and demo a lot. If you speak no English, tell us and we can sometimes arrange a bilingual friend or host to attend.
  2. Pollen or latex sensitivity: note it when you message. We can work around it or let you know if it's not suitable.
  3. Physical ability to stand: the session is standing, though we can add a stool for anyone who needs to sit. If you have mobility questions, ask in advance.
  4. How to transport your pieces home: they're wrapped and stable, but a taxi or hotel delivery is easier than a long bus ride. We'll advise.
  5. What to do with the arrangements: they last 5–7 days in water. If you're leaving Hanoi the next day, enjoy them in your room, take a photo, and give them to your hotel staff. If you're staying longer, find a vase (any tall glass works) and change water every two days.

Related experiences in Hanoi

If you love hands-on learning in Hanoi, consider combining a flower workshop with a Vietnamese cooking class or coffee workshop on another day. Many guests book both and compare the two mornings. Farm experiences and craft workshops offer similar small-group, instructional formats. We also run art and culture classes and group and corporate sessions if you're visiting with a larger team.

FAQ

Do I need any flower arranging experience to join?

No. Beginners make up most of our groups. We teach the basics step-by-step, and you'll finish with two complete pieces you made yourself.

Can I choose the colours of flowers I want to use?

Partly. We select flowers fresh that morning based on the season. You choose which blooms and colours to use from what's available. If you have a strong preference (all whites, no pink), mention it when you book and we'll prioritise it.

How long do the arrangements last after I take them home?

With fresh water every two days, 5–7 days. Roses and chrysanthemums last longer than dahlias or delicate foliage. We'll give you a care tip sheet when you leave.

What if I'm only in Hanoi for one day?

We can often fit you in same-day if you message us by 9 a.m. No guarantee, but worth asking. If not, we run experiences in other cities too.

Is there a minimum group size or can I book a private session?

Private sessions (1–2 people) are available anytime you request. Small groups (4–6) run on set dates. Ask us for dates and availability on WhatsApp.

Do you offer longer floristry courses or advanced sessions?

We focus on the single 2–3-hour workshop. If you want deeper training, we can discuss custom multi-session options—ask when you contact us.
